City of West Sacramento Recognizes Avanza Rising Scholars Conference During Hispanic Heritage Month

The City of West Sacramento honored the Avanza Rising Scholars Conference during its annual Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation, recognizing the conference's contributions to expanding educational opportunity for students and families throughout the Sacramento region.

During the Sept. 9 City Council meeting, Mayor Martha Guerrero presented a proclamation recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month and acknowledging the community service and regional impact of the Avanza Rising Scholars Conference. The recognition highlights the growing impact of Avanza's partnerships throughout the region and the shared commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation of scholars and leaders.

Caroline Cabias, a member of the Avanza Community Council, and Mayté Frías, director of the Avanza Initiative at UC Davis, were among the UC Davis representatives that attended the meeting to accept the proclamation and share the conference's mission and accomplishments.

The Avanza Rising Scholars Conference brings together students, families, educators and community partners to explore pathways to higher education through college preparation, leadership development and exposure to the opportunities available at UC Davis. The conference is a signature program of the Avanza Initiative, which advances UC Davis' commitment as a Hispanic-Serving Institution by strengthening educational pathways and supporting student success.

The City Council's recognition celebrates not only the conference itself, but also the many volunteers, educators, alumni and community partners whose collaboration makes the event possible each year.
