Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups (ERG)

Employee Resource Groups (ERG) are voluntary, employee-led, university-supported organizations that foster collaboration, professional development, and employee engagement among UC Davis staff and faculty. Open to all employees, ERGs provide opportunities to exchange knowledge, build networks, and support a collaborative and engaging campus workplace.

Advancing Engagement and Collaboration 

Each ERG is open to all UC Davis employees and brings together colleagues who share an interest in advancing employee success, well-being, and institutional effectiveness. Through your participation, you can help strengthen a campus culture that values collaboration, professional growth, and cross-departmental connection.

Mission

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) enhance workplace engagement by supporting professional development, employee voice, and community connection. These groups create space for employees to exchange ideas, develop leadership skills, and explore topics that impact the UC Davis workforce. ERGs contribute to a university culture aligned with the UC Davis Principles of Community.

Structure

All ERGs are formally registered through Inclusive Excellence. Each group is governed by its own steering committee, follows a campus-approved set of bylaws, and operates in accordance with all university policies and applicable state and federal non-discrimination laws. Oversight and guidance are provided by Inclusive Excellence to ensure alignment with institutional values and compliance obligations.

Opportunities

Participation in an ERG provides opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills, build cross-campus connections, explore shared workplace experiences, host programs that support employee success and engagement, and contribute to projects that enhance retention and organizational culture. Participation is voluntary and open to all faculty and staff.

UC Davis Health ERGs operate through Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (HEDI). Health-based ERGs are similarly mission-driven but follow unique oversight, funding, and reporting procedures aligned with health system protocols.

UC Davis Reaffirms Support for Staff Organizations

In a 2023 message to campus leaders, Chancellor May reaffirmed UC Davis’ commitment to staff organizations—including Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)—as vital contributors to the university’s mission. He emphasized that participation in these groups is not volunteer work, but meaningful service that strengthens campus culture and should be supported during regular work hours. Supervisors are encouraged to grant reasonable release time for staff to engage in ERG activities as part of their university role.

African American Faculty and Staff Association (AAFSA)

The African American Faculty and Staff Association (AAFSA) fosters a welcoming and supportive space for faculty and staff committed to advancing Black leadership, professional development, and community engagement at UC Davis. Open to all employees, AAFSA promotes inclusion, leadership development, and the celebration of Black culture and excellence. The group is open to all employees interested in promoting inclusion and celebrating Black excellence.

Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA)

The Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA) builds a collaborative environment for faculty and staff who support the advancement of Asian Pacific American communities at UC Davis. Through mentorship, networking, and cultural programs, APASA contributes to professional growth and institutional inclusion. Open to all, APASA encourages collaboration in building a strong community.

Jewish Culture, Heritage, and Identity Faculty and Staff Association (JCHAIFSA)

The Jewish Culture, Heritage, and Identity Faculty and Staff Association (JCHAIFSA) fosters an inclusive and supportive environment at UC Davis dedicated to celebrating and advancing Jewish culture, heritage, and identity. Open to all UC Davis employees, JCHAIFSA provides opportunities for professional development, community engagement, and education to combat antisemitism, support cultural understanding, and build meaningful connections across campus.

Latinx Staff and Faculty Association (LSFA)

The Latinx Staff and Faculty Association (LSFA) at UC Davis promotes professional development, cultural engagement, and advocacy among UC Davis faculty and staff who support Latinx communities. The group collaborates with campus partners to elevate inclusive practices and community leadership. LSFA is open to all employees interested in supporting advocacy, mentorship and professional development.

Muslim Faculty and Staff Association (MFSA)

The Muslim Faculty and Staff Association (MFSA) at UC Davis supports faculty and staff by fostering inclusivity, professional development, and cultural engagement. MFSA engages in cultural and professional development initiatives, fostering connections across campus and beyond. Open to all, MFSA encourages engagement in programs that celebrate diversity and understanding.

Native American Faculty and Staff Association (NAFSA)

The Native American Faculty and Staff Association (NAFSA) provides a support network for faculty and staff who support Native American and Alaskan Native communities. NAFSA advocates for professional growth, representation, and education about Indigenous cultures, contributing to an inclusive university environment. All employees are welcome to engage in NAFSA’s mission and activities.

The Queer and Trans Faculty and Staff Association (QTFSA) promotes equity and well-being by advancing inclusive policies, educational opportunities, and community-building efforts. Open to all employees, QTFSA engages the broader campus in professional development, cross-community dialogue, and collaborative advocacy for a more inclusive university. The group is open to all who wish to contribute to this mission.

Veterans Faculty and Staff Association (VFSA)

The Veterans Faculty and Staff Association (VFSA) provides resources and advocacy for veteran employees, active service member employees, and their families and allies at UC Davis. The group advocates for veteran inclusion, professional development, and policy recommendations to enhance the university experience for those who have served. Open to all, these Veteran's groups foster a community of support and shared understanding.

Womxn In Technology (WIT)

Womxn in Technology (WIT) at UC Davis fosters an equitable environment for faculty and staff in technology-related fields. Through mentorship, networking, and advocacy, WIT provides opportunities for career growth and community building. The group is open to all employees committed to supporting mentorship, career advancement, and collaboration in IT-related fields.
