Improving health outcomes by connecting with patients on a cultural level
Physician Debby Lee honored with Inclusive Excellence and Equity Award
Internal medicine physician Debby Lee has received the 2025 Dr. Ifeanyi Onyeji Resident/Fellow Inclusive Excellence and Equity Award for her leadership in advancing health equity at UC Davis Health. Lee, the daughter of Hmong refugees, has centered her career on addressing health disparities and building trust with immigrant and underserved communities.
At UC Davis Health, she mentors students through the Health Equity Academy, contributes to the Department of Internal Medicine’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement (DICE) committee, and provides guidance to residency applicants. She has also led efforts to expand hepatitis B screening and develop translated resources for patients, while volunteering at the HALO free clinic. The award — presented by Graduate Medical Education, the Resident Medical Staff Committee, and the Office for Medical Pathways — recognizes her work to improve patient outcomes and promote equity in medicine.
