Inclusive Excellence Releases 2024–25 Annual Impact Report
The UC Davis Division of Inclusive Excellence has released its 2024–25 Annual Impact Report, highlighting a year marked by institutional milestones, community engagement and a renewed commitment to the Principles of Community.
The report documents progress across seven impact areas — including student empowerment, faculty advancement, health for all, community engagement and expression and understanding — and reflects the breadth of work led in partnership with units across UC Davis and UC Davis Health.
“This report is ultimately about people,” said Vice Chancellor for Inclusive Excellence Renetta Garrison Tull, Ph.D. “It honors the students, faculty, staff and community partners who live our values every day, often quietly, and always with purpose.”
A Year of Reflection and Milestones
The 2024–25 academic year marked the 35th anniversary of the Principles of Community, which affirm that UC Davis “recognizes and values the dignity inherent in all of us.” Inclusive Excellence led a yearlong series of events and dialogues across campus and at UC Davis Health, inviting faculty, staff, students and alumni to reflect on how the Principles continue to guide leadership, teaching, clinical care and community engagement.
The anniversary provided an opportunity not only to celebrate the university’s shared values, but also to examine how they are practiced across classrooms, workplaces and healthcare settings.
In parallel, Inclusive Excellence also expanded its Dynamic Discussions initiative, hosting workshops, webinars and campus conversations designed to strengthen dialogue across differences. Several programs focused specifically on addressing antisemitism and Islamophobia, providing faculty, staff and students with structured spaces to engage complex topics with scholarly rigor and mutual respect.
Another milestone highlighted in the report is UC Davis’ achievement of Hispanic-Serving Institution eligibility, the result of sustained, multi-year efforts to strengthen advising, outreach and student support systems. The designation reflects the university’s evolving student body and the work of numerous units across campus to build pathways where every student can thrive.
Rather than a single initiative, leaders describe the designation as evidence of a broader ecosystem of inclusion that connects K–12 partnerships, community colleges, regional collaboratives and campus-based programs focused on belonging and academic success for all students.
Sustained Commitment to Community
The report also marks the 10th year of the Avanza Rising Scholars Conference at UC Davis, which welcomed hundreds of middle and high school students to campus to explore college pathways and leadership development. The milestone underscores the university’s longstanding investment in regional engagement and early outreach.
The conference was just one example of UC Davis leadership in the K–16 Collaborative. Through this initiative launched by the governor’s office 4 years ago, UC Davis continues to strengthen education-to-career pathways across the Sacramento, North State and Redwood Coast regions. The initiative has helped generate more than $54 million in regional investment, aligning curriculum, workforce development and higher education access to meet local economic and workforce needs. These partnerships illustrate how coordinated, cross-sector collaboration can expand opportunity while supporting regional innovation and mobility.
Steadfast in Purpose
Across all sections, the Impact Report emphasizes collaboration with schools, civic leaders, healthcare partners and community-based organizations as a defining feature of the division’s work. Summarizing the year, Vice Chancellor Tull acknowledged the complexity of the broader higher education landscape while reaffirming the university’s enduring commitments.
“This year required focus, partnership and resilience,” she said. “Across campus and at UC Davis Health, we saw people come together to expand opportunity, strengthen community and uphold our shared values. This report reflects that steady work and the many individuals who continue to move it forward.”
