🌟 Presented by Inclusive Excellence (Campus Community Book Project)
This panel brings together faculty from across UC Davis and UC Davis Health discuss their research on voting and elections within and between different disciplines as well as national and international contexts. The panel aims to share research, advance research literacy, and explore scholarly boundaries of expertise as well as areas for cross-pollination.

2026-2027 marks the UC Davis Campus Community Book Project’s 25th anniversary, and our theme—civil liberties—leans into the Book Project’s legacy of promoting dialogue and engaging diverse perspectives and audiences. Our selection, On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder is a call to arms and a guide to resistance, with invaluable ideas for how we can preserve our freedoms in the uncertain years to come. The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience. Author Timothy Snyder holds the inaugural Temerty Chair in Modern European History at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. He is also a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and the head of the academic advisory council of Ukrainian History Global Initiative.
