The Campus Community Book Project enters its 25th year with On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, Timothy Snyder’s guide to recognizing and resisting the forces that can erode democracy. The 2017 book will anchor this year’s campus conversations around civil liberties, with discussions and events continuing throughout the academic year and culminating in Snyder’s March 15, 2027, visit to the Mondavi Center.

The Campus Community Book Project is inviting nominations for books that fit its 2027–28 theme, “Futures and Technologies.” The selected book will anchor a year of activities exploring developments such as artificial intelligence and questions of ethics, accessibility and privacy, culminating in a visit by the author. Nominations are open through September 9.

Faculty, staff, and graduate student instructors are invited to apply for the new UC Dialogue Fellows Program from the University of California National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement. The fellowship provides $5,000 to support teaching practices that help students develop dialogue skills and engage across differences. 

Hate-Free Together, a regional initiative that includes the City of Davis, UC Davis, Yolo County, Davis Joint Unified School District and the Yolo County Office of Education, has launched a new strategic planning process, focusing on safety and belonging. UC Davis has been a member of the initiative since its founding in 2022.

The Words of Affirmation campaign invites graduating students to share messages with the incoming class of UC Davis students. Whether it’s advice you wish you’d heard, encouragement that helped you through a difficult moment or words that made you feel like you belonged, your message can help welcome the next generation of Aggies.

Selected submissions may be featured in welcome events, digital displays and university communications throughout the fall.

UC Davis has launched a newly reimagined Addressing Antisemitism resource hub, reinforcing the university’s commitment to confronting antisemitism as an ongoing challenge, globally, nationally and on college campuses, including UC Davis. 

Originally established in September 2022, the page has continued to evolve through sustained engagement with Jewish students, faculty, staff and community partners.  

UC Davis students, faculty, staff and community members gathered on a Friday afternoon at the School of Law for a screening of Shared Legacies: The African American–Jewish Civil Rights Alliance, followed by a panel discussion and community reception.

UC Davis employees who create or manage online content must comply with new federal accessibility regulations beginning April–May 2026. This applies to all digital materials—including websites, documents, videos, social media posts, and third-party tools—and requires adherence to WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA standards to ensure content is accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities who rely on assistive technologies.

UC Davis welcomed poet and author Javier Zamora to the Mondavi Center for an evening of reflection, storytelling and dialogue centered on his critically acclaimed memoir Solito: A Memoir, this year’s selection for the Campus Community Book Project.

Vice Chancellor Renetta G. Tull recently delivered the summary report for the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Board of Directors meeting, held in advance of the organization’s annual conference — a reflection of her continued leadership within one of the world’s leading scientific societies.
